UPDATES REGARDING SCHOOL CLOSURES AND COVID-19

The safety of Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program students, staff, strategic partners and those we love remains our highest priority. ANSEP and the University of Alaska are following protocols established by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services in response to COVID-19. The University health and emergency management teams are monitoring the status of the coronavirus pandemic and are following all recommendations from state and federal agencies.

In line with these recommendations and in the best interest of our ANSEP family, we have decided to postpone or cancel all components, special events, and gatherings through the end of April. Below is a list of impacted activities.

Session:   Session Dates:  Status:
Acceleration Academy (Summer) May 29 - July 2 Tentatively scheduled to be hosted in-person
Acceleration Ready ENGLISH and MATH Sessions June 1 - 30 Virtual delivery via Zoom

ANSEP Facilities

The ANSEP Building, ANSEP Academy and ANSEP Acceleration facilities are all closed to students and staff. Students may contact ANSEP Regional Directors to request access to pick up belongings. https://www.ansep.net/about/our-team

Middle School Academy

There will be no on-campus or in-person middle school component related sessions this spring or summer. This spring, middle school students currently in grades 6, 7 and 8 can register for ANSEP STEM Connect by visiting www.ansepmsa.com. For this summer, our team is working to develop alternative STEM Career Explorations experiences that will also be hosted virtually. We understand these virtual engagements will not replace our traditional ANSEP experiences, but we hope to provide students with STEM opportunities regardless. We will be sharing information about our alternative STEM Career Explorations experiences and how to get involved as they become available.

ANSEP will work directly with partners to discuss plans for future partnerships.

Acceleration Academy (Mat-Su and Anchorage)

Recitations and weekly Friday meetings will be held remotely using Zoom. Instructions for participating in Zoom recitations and weekly meetings will be sent to students via email and in the student Slack. Communication with students and families will continue through the Slack app and email newsletters.

There is no impact on 2021-22 student applicants. All interested students are encouraged to apply. ANSEP will respond to applicants in a timely manner.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Postmarked or Online Submission by March 19, 2021
