Jace Lovell’s ANSEP journey began during his sophomore year at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) with the University Success component. From the moment his friend introduced him to ANSEP, Jace says hasn’t looked back. Born and raised in Fairbanks, Jace received his mechanical engineering degree earlier this year from UAF with the support of ANSEP, and he spent this summer in Anchorage as director of ANSEP’s Summer Bridge component.

“Being the Summer Bridge director opened my eyes to the passion behind ANSEP and how the program gives these students opportunities that might not have been available to them. Although I was involved before, this position truly helped me discover what ANSEP is all about. I was in charge of 20 plus students, dealing with professional development and helping them out with college-level courses. I oversaw the entire process throughout the summer and was a mentor to these students who were searching for support from someone who has already gone through the program,” Jace said.

As a result of his experience, Jace is pursuing a master’s degree in project management at the University of Alaska Anchorage. According to Jace, he owes his drive to ANSEP and the students he mentored over the summer.

“Seeing how hard they worked over the summer motivated me to continue my education,” Jace said. “The advice I gave to students this summer was to be aggressive with their internships and study habits throughout their college careers. Strive for success 100 percent of the time, and ANSEP will support you along the way.”
